COUNTRY PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Kissito Healthcare International (KHI) is a U.S. based not-for- profit non-governmental organization working in East Africa. KHI has been operational in Ethiopia, Uganda, Somalia and South Sudan in areas of Health Infrastructure Development, Health Systems Strengthening, Maternal Newborn and Child Health, Communicable Disease Prevention and Control and Emergency Nutrition. KHI serves the world’s most vulnerable people with low-cost, high-impact interventions. KHI commenced its operation in South Sudan in 2012 and has a geographic presence in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA). Currently, the organization is implementing Emergency Nutrition project in partnership with UNICEF and WFP; Rapid Result Health Project in partnership with IMA World Health. KHI is seeking an experienced Medical Coordinator who will be working on Rapid Result Health Project/RRHP support to Boma county hospital.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The purpose of the job is to ensure that patients receive quality care at hospitals, primary health care centers and primary health care units in Greater Pibor Administrative Area. The medical coordinator will be responsible for all KHI’S clinical work with in the country program. S/He will be responsible for design of health intervention and provision of quality care in GPAA based in Boma.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively participate in the need assessment and design of health and nutrition proposals to donors
  • Ensure that health facilities are operating up to the ministry of health standard and are providing good quality services
  • Treat and counsel patients in Boma County Hospital as needed
  • Avail the national treatment guidelines at the health facilities
  • Mentor/Coach health workers to enhance skill and knowledge transfer on job training and innovative approaches
  • Identify the human resource need in health facilities and actively participate in the recruitment and placement of health workers in the facilities
  • Set milestones for performance and regularly review the performance of staff
  • Identify the material, equipment , supplies and drug needs of health facilities and ensure the procurement by the logistic officers
  • Develop system for inventory and forecast for drugs and supplies need
  • Ensure the availability of registers, log books and cards in each department and ensure proper medical record management is in place
  • Ensure the accurateness and completeness of HMIS data from the health facilities
  • Prepare weekly and monthly plan as well as report for static and outreach activities
  • Ensure the proper utilization of funds within donor terms and agreements
  • Actively participate in health cluster meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

Qualifications

  • Medical degree, preferably with a Doctorate degree in Medicine (MD) and MPH in Public health is a plus.

Skills & experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 4 years clinical experience in emergency set up
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills
  • Skilled in management, supervision and organization
  • Very good program report writing skills as well as analytical capacities
  • Strong writing and presentation skills
  • Excellent representation and coordination skills with MOH, Health Cluster Coordination and other stakeholder
  • Strong experience in organizing and conducting training and capacity building
  • Basic computer skills
  • Energetic, independent and motivated to work in resource limited and harsh environment
  • Experience with data collection and analysis
  • Logistical planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience living and working with local communities in dynamic, insecure environments.
  • Ability to live and work from within a remote post.
  • Experience in effectively dealing with international and headquarters staff, as well as donor agencies, government officials, and other NGO’s; the ability to work with a broad spectrum of people
  • Extremely flexible, and ability to work in basic living conditions, and under administrative and programmatic pressures and ability to cope with stressful situations
  • Fluent in English
